Curcuma longa (Tumeric) is the main spice that gives curry it’s a yellow color, and in most Indian dishes, in the Hausa Land it is mainly used for skincare, they call it “kurkur or kurkum” . It happens to be very cheap here, yet it is the most powerful herb in fighting disease, which only a few people recognize.
Why is Tumeric essential?
In brief, Tumeric is high in tumerone and curcumin, where curcumin is proven to be the most powerful cancer-fighting compound, has anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. While tumerone has an anti-convulsive property, also incredible for joint pain and repair, then it also aids digestion.
In fact, a number of studies have even reported that using curcumin is more advantageous than certain prescription drugs.
Now let’s take a tour through some of the benefits of turmeric to our health, for beauty care and sharing some hacks:
1. Let’s start with the popular one, Tumeric for skincare: Tumeric has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties where it had been proven to cure certain skin conditions.
Tumeric helps speeding up wound healing, calming the pores to decrease acne and blacheads (writing from experience), can be use to archive a glowing skin.
You can apply tumeric by making a paste, mixed either with milk, honey or anything facemask recipe, for amazing results, wish I can share my favourite tumeric face mask?.
This is the most amazing thing I find interesting about Tumeric: it can be used for teeth whitening.
2. Helps in diabetic management:
Biochemistry and Biophysical Research Communications published a study out of Auburn University that explored how supplementing with turmeric can help reverse diabetes.
The study discovered that curcumin in turmeric is literally 400 times more potent than Metformin (a common diabetes drug) in activating AMPK which improves insulin sensitivity which can help reverse Type 2 Diabetes.
3. Cancer treatment:
Turmeric works incredibly well to help naturally treat cancer and is especially effective at treating breast cancer, colon cancer and skin cancer. It may also help with chemotherapy resistance in patients with PDAC.
And many more benefits such as:
