I typed in the title and for a moment, I sat staring at the blank screen that was waiting for me to type in something because my head was blank. My radio was turned on and I was truly dumbfounded by the news that came across: of a youngster who killed his Mother yesterday for a worldly reason, and the truth is there is no day I’ll tune in to the local radio stations without news of that nature coming across. It’s either a child killing the mother, one colleague murdering the other, domestic violence, child abuse or something of that nature. I’ve even heard of some who were stabbed for worthless reasons, I truly wish I can narrate all but that isn’t possible.

So, I decided I’d just share with you one that made me wept my eyes out: It was about a child can’t recall the exact age but he wasn’t up to the age of 10, whom two of step-siblings saw him with 20-naira given to hin by an uncle or so, they immediately concluded he stole it, so they tied up his hands and wrapped  a nylon around it, then set the nylon on fire it kept burning and this child’s hands burned along and the heartlessness only stopped after the nylon was completely burnt along with his hands. I was like subhanallah! Who has the right to use fire for punishment apart from Allah? how cruel has this world become that people kill each other, punish each other, hate and envy each other?  why is all this happening? I promise you it is solely for the Love of this temporary imperfect Dunya.

Okay! forget the higher-killers and the wicked souls, take a look at our politicians and our leaders so much lies, so many false promises, some even go to the extent of seeking resort in magic relying on it for success, forgetting the responsibilities of leaders in Islam, forgetting the fact that no doubt Allah will surely hold them responsible for all these.

Don’t get too excited yet, let me come down to you and I how do we behave? we are constantly chasing after the Dunya, we are so lost in the noise and deception of this Dunya, that we cannot even differentiate right from wrong. we hate and we envy the success of others. Sisters  want to dress half naked or in tight clothing just to fit into the so-called fashion outrightly going against Allah’s command for us to cover as women, brothers are looking for someone’s daughter, sister, wife or mother to ruin their lives, music and Digital/social media consumption is our food now in fact it’s now our oxygen that some feel it’s the end of the world without it. Some of us even stoop as low as mocking and making fun of people who are really striving in the path of Allah the right path, you all know what I’m talking about, we are all chasing after the Dunya base on our own level of understanding and our definition of success in this world.

“Nations are about to unite (and call) each other to set upon you, just as diners are invited to a plate of food.” It was said: “Will it be because of our lack of numbers that day (i.e. will be be small in number)?” He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Rather, you will be many on that day, but you will be like scum foam (that floats) on the river. Allah will remove the fear of you from the hearts of your enemies and put Wahn into your hearts.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is Wahn?” Heصلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Love for the dunya and hatred for death.

~  Abu Dawood

Just take a look at the last part of this hadith, it is your problem and it my problem today. There are some people whom Allah allows them to drown in this world and allows them to grossly engage in it by giving them more, and we need to seek refuge from such. Then you and I would be like these people are outrageously sinning yet Allah is giving them more and they  look so happy (it’s detrimental guys! Temporary) and we begin to ask why is Allah giving them so much and I’m here trying my best to strive on his path but then it seems I don’t get what I deserve?  Allow me to tell you this, it is not the amount of money or materialistic things we have that determines our success in this world, Allah blessed you with so much? It’s a test! You feel you’re poor? It’s a test! Money is just a tool don’t make it the end goal. Our end goal is Akhirah. Please consider some of these verses from the Quran:

“…Are you pleased with the life of this world (dunya) rather than the hereafter (Aakhira)? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter” (Quran, Al-Tawbah: 38).“…as compared with the life of the hereafter, the life of this world is nothing but brief passing enjoyment” (Quran, Ar-Rad: 26).“And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. But far better is the house in the hereafter for those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious). Will you not then understand?” (Quran, Al-An’aam: 32)

Will, we not still understand? If only we were not deceived by this world and it glitters, we wouldn’t have wasted so much time trying to live life to a brief passing enjoyment, play, amusement, and a deception. The reason why our Ummah is suffering today is that we are all trying and struggling to acquire the glitters of this world. But then we truly need to rectify this, so I’ll be sharing the 3 major cure for this I know there are more out there but truly this will help you.

How to Cure our Love for Dunya

  1. Remembrance of Death: Some of us hate to hear the word DEATH but let’s face it, you’ll die, I’ll die and we’d all leave this Dunya someday, we were not here to stay forever in the first place. So, remembering death suppresses the inordinate desires we have, it uproots the very foundation of negligence and apathy, it strengthens one’s heart, It softens our herd mentality,  It suppresses the evil of greediness and makes the world humble before our eyes.
  2. Give Charity: Get it to give out things you are so engrossed and attached to, a charity has never decreased anyone in wealth, plus it’s the smartest investment you will ever make. It eases hardship and expiates sins, and lot more.
  3. Connect your Soul to the Pious:  Be with people who are close to Allah, and I can’t overemphasize this.

The truth is a person who has lost guidance is like one who has been kidnapped by shaitan and becomes motionless.  so much lesson to learn yet we are so weak and heedless that we are not able to fight our desires this is what we’re going through today especially those who have completely turned their heels away from the guidance of Allah, it’s a great tragedy. It is not by our will and strength that we are guided, so we ask Allah to keep us steadfast on this deen, and I leave you all in peace.

JazakAllah Khair!
